WRITING, EDITING & VIDEO

Meadow Creek PBC - Community Video

December 12, 2017

A group from my church wanted to support one of the young people in our congregation who had a solo in her college choir's Christmas concert. I shot footage during the course of the trip, and edited it into the video above to post on my church's Facebook page.

Bahn Mi Recipe Video

This was for an individual video project for a communication special topics class, "Producing Video Online," at Wingate University.  I wrote the script/video plan, shot from start to finish, and edited the footage into the final product.

Whiteboard Animation Video - Six Tips to Help You Study for a Test

October 21, 2017

Two other students and I worked together to create this 90-second video as an assignment for a communication special topics class, "Producing Video Online," at Wingate University.  I contributed by helping to research the topic, write and edit the script, and compose visual scenes to compliment the voiceover.   Unfortunately, we were only able to gain access to the free, 14-day trial version of GoAnimate to create the visuals, so the video is no longer available for viewing or export.

About My CVA Internship Experience

May 26, 2017

Cindy and her team have been a joy to work with for the past three months.  When I first signed on, I was hesitant about committing to extra work during a demanding semester in school.  But honestly I had nothing to worry about.  With assignments given once a week (to be submitted by the following week), I have the luxury of getting to organize my own weekly schedule in order to complete my tasks, rather than be tied to a specific time in the office.  And during weeks when my life has gotten especially busy and stressful, Kayla, who gives me my weekly assignments, has been so understanding and accommodating, and willing to give me the flexibility to accept more work on some weeks and less on others.  Cindy, Kayla, and Noah are people who genuinely care about their interns and never fail to provide kind and positive encouragement, which makes it not only less stressful to work under their supervision, but more fun and rewarding too.

When It's Hard to Love.

February 28, 2016

As Christians, we’re all called to love.  We know Jesus’ command to love even our enemies, those we’ve been conditioned to hate.  I used to think that was the hardest kind of love there is.  And it probably still is.  But I’ve learned that there’s another kind that feels almost as difficult.

How do you love a friend who acts like they don’t want to be your friend anymore?  Someone who doesn’t want your love?  Someone whose apparent hatred of your presence hurts you down to your core?  Certain situations call for us to love in a different way than we’re used to.

Permanent calling and our February Giving Project

February 1, 2016

Ever since Provost Richardson’s message at the Callings Lunch last Thursday, I’ve been thinking about what she said about calling.  One of her points was that we all have permanent callings and fluid callings in our lives.  A permanent calling in the life of every Christian is simply to love people and be generous.  But that permanent call can be expressed through many different, fluid outlets that can vary from person to person, and even within the lifetime of a single individual.  Sometimes we have smaller callings that build up and prepare us for larger callings later on.

The first person to cause me to think seriously about calling was a man named Obey Ndalima.  He visited my church when I was eight years old.  He was a tall, skinny man who had skin the color of coffee, a smile as bright as the sun, and wore purple suits on Sundays.  He was in the U.S. on a Visa to go to Bible College, because he wanted to bring the gospel back to his family in Tanzania.  He worked at Sneaky Pete’s Hot Dogs and drove a beat up little car that most Americans would probably deem un-drivable.  Everyday on his commute to and from work, he would pass a little church with a sign that said “Vestavia Primitive Baptist Church” and wonder what it was like.

Religious Life at Berry College Becomes More Diverse

April 21, 2015

The Berry College community, while founded on Christian principles, has begun to embrace more religious diversity in recent years.  Data from the Registrar's Office and Institutional Research shows that out of the 1,847 incoming students for the fall 2014 semester who reported their religious affiliation, 89.4 percent identified as some form of Christian while nearly 10 percent do not identify with Christianity. While the majority of the population is still largely Christian, diversity is making a presence.

According to Dr. Jeffrey Lidke, though there is a clear Christian majority at Berry, there have been growing efforts in recent years to increase discussion and understanding between people of various faiths and religions on campus. A religion and philosophy professor, Lidke has been enormously involved in these efforts.  According to him, in 2003, the Interfaith Council was set up at the request of the president of the college at the time in response to the reactions surrounding an interfaith service that took place in the Berry College Chapel following the events of 9/11. The purpose of the Interfaith Council is to foster interfaith dialogue between all faiths that make up Berry's campus.

PSA Split Script - National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA)

February 16, 2016

This 60-second script was written for my copywriting and scriptwriting class this semester.  Its purpose is to address the warning signs of disordered eating in children before they develop into full-fledged disorders.
